Wait times for Canadian Permanent Residency
I wish there was a single answer. I became a landed immigrant in canada about 5 years. In this period I have met people who have gotten it in a few months and the longest case I have seen is 37 months. In this period I have also met people whose lives changed so greately in their home country in this waiting period that they finally decided NOT to accept the residence and remained in their country.
I know this process is frustrating, but keep in mind that if your documents are in order and you have the "points", it is just a matter of time.
Also bear in mind that Canadian authorities need to check with the Police within your own country to perofrm a background check. As far as I understand this is what delays the process the most.

37 months
I cannot believe that people have hang around waiting 37 months for immigration to do their paperwork. The all process is VERY frustrating we have been going for 14 months and I'm hoping it will not take that length of time. All paperwork, police checks and points were ok.We were hoping to hear pretty soon

some people prefer to wait
after all, some people still have a better quality of life in Canada after waiting for 37 months for the corresponding documents.
But well, it will come.Anonymous 05 Ott 2005, 07:41 - Denuncia -
thank you!
Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply to my question.I think no matter how long the whole thing takes we will not be changing our minds,we look forward to our new life in Canada.Hopefully it won't take 30 something months but I suppose the best things are worth waiting for.

My waiting period for the Canadian residency...
My waiting period to obtain the landed immigrant status was 7 months. I am of Swedish origin, with the necessary points without having a job prior to my application.
So.. the process definitely varies.Anonymous 07 Ott 2005, 05:18 - Denuncia -

wow this forum is great!
I had a similar situation. 25 months to get the PR card in Canada! It is slow, but do not quit! if your documents are in order it is just a matter of time

What about the processing time for citizenship applications?
I applied over a year ago. I only received a booklet with info about Canada that I understand I will be asked at the exam. Since then I have not received anything.
I checked online at the Citizenship & Immigration Canada website and it says "application in progress"
This is very frustrating. It feels as if my life was on hold.

wait time for citizenship application - canada
it could be as quick as 3 months, however I know of people who have waited for over 2 years.
I really wished there was a formula to determine how much time it would take or a way to determine how much time your application has left to go through the process... I was as frustrated as you are...

Hope and Pray
When i first applied in 2002 i got an answer in less than 6 months..however i was turned down. I reapplied in 2004 and have been waiting since.
Its a good indication if your papers are in order and you've passed the 67 points. Back in 2002 it was a clear case that i didnt have the points needed so i got an answer fast.
Its not always bad that your waiting..it shows that they are processing your application and checking out what you said.
PS: I learnt my lesson in 2002..use the web site to get up to date forms!!
Good luck allAnonymous 10 Nov 2005, 07:54 - Denuncia -
Happy news!
Got my landing documents in 11 months! reading what many of you had said, I am VERY lucky!
WOO HOOOOO!Anonymous 14 Nov 2005, 04:52 - Denuncia -
Congrats!!
Thats good news that it took just 11 months..im jealous!!..haha
May i ask what country your comming from?Anonymous 14 Nov 2005, 04:31 - Denuncia -
For those complaining!
If you think it takes for ever, try immigrating legally to the USA or any other country in Europe. It could take YEARS!
So, stop complaining! Canada has an open door policy. Almost anybody with a brain can come and make it here.Anonymous 30 Nov 2005, 10:02 - Denuncia -
fast track...
is there a way where i can fast track my application? the canadian embassy"s letter says to wait for 36 months...its a long wait!

waiting too!
we sent off our papers last october and have been waiting patiently. The WAITING TIMES are frustrating but there is nothing else to do.We know of three other families who also applied around the same time as us,they have now all changed their minds and are staying in England. You do get alot of time to think about things and I think everyone will get doubts and nerves through the whole process.

Waiting
Hi, can anyone help?We sent off our paperwork for Canada in Oct. 2004, we then got our reply card from immigration saying not to expect to be contacted for up to 18 months.I have now heard that it says 36 months on more recent replies from immigration. What I would like to know is if the 18 months still applies to us or are we in the 36 month waiting period??We are very confused about it all.We live in the UK.
Anonymous 11 Gen 2006, 10:37 - Denuncia -
hang in there!
If your process is only 18 months old I would suggest to hang in there... if everything is in order you will get your immigration documents approved

Medical forms..
Hi all, I applied in 2004 April and i still havnt got my medical forms. All my papers are in order.
Do they send you the forms or just a letter? After i submit my medicals, how much longer do i wait till they process the medicals?
Do i wait another year before the medicals are processed??Anonymous 14 Gen 2006, 06:20 - Denuncia -
Bit of good news......
Some friends of ours have just had a letter from immigration saying that they should hear something by the end of june 2006, they applied in june 2004.I have also read on other forums of people receiving these letters. There doesn't seem to be any order but on the letter they received it did say they would be starting to processing all applications received from may 2004 to november 2004,so maybe this is the glimmer of hope us 2004 applications have been waiting for?
Anonymous 22 Gen 2006, 12:10 - Denuncia -
Club 2004!!
Thank you for that bit of info "bit of good news". Honestly im even more fustrated after i read it. Letters were sent out saying they NOW started to process 2004 may -Nov 2004 applicants!! Thats crazy. I applied on May 2004..and i read on this forum a person waiting close to a year to have medicals processed. Thats 3 years+ waiting.
Does it apply per country or to all 2004 applicants?
Thanks and good luck all.

patience...
Hi everybody,
it seems I hold a record there... Please all sit down and check this out: I submited my file in Nov.2001. First signs came in the summer of 2004, when I sent a lot of documentation. Meanwhile had a new baby, another set of papers etc. Applied as skilled worker, 82 points (if I remember well), took an IELTS English test (7 of 9) Nov.2004. Then... silence... till Feb.2006, when I got the medicals. Finally, in Oct.2006 I got the visa... I live in Romania.
So, think 30 mo. is too much? How about... 5 yrs?...Anonymous 05 Gen 2007, 12:25 - Denuncia -
Question
I was wondering those who got it in 7 months which office did you apply from?
Anonymous 07 Gen 2007, 03:02 - Denuncia -
Buffalo application - received Medical forms in 12 months
I submitted my initial application to the Buffalo office in May 2006. They acknowledged receipt and said they had begun to review my application as of June 2006. I waited and checked the status online many times, it just always said " IN PROGRESS" It is now May 4, 2007 and yesterday I received the good news that it is time to get my medicals done and must submit them within 60 days. The online status still says In Progress!
The letter says that I will not need an interview and that they do not require any additional information.
I live in San Francisco, CA and they have only one approved Physician who can do the medical exam. I called his office and he only does these exams for Canadian Immigration on Wednesday's from 9am - 12noon.

does anyone know if this is ok?
hi!
i have a question regarding retaining permanent residency status in canada.
i landed in canada about 2 years ago but only stayed there for 9 months and then came back to my home country (belgium).
i know i have to be in canada 2 years out of 5 in order to retain my status, but i have a friend who only stayed in canada a year and a half and then went back to europe to work.
he has bought a house in canada which is rented out and all the utility bills are in his name. he says that all the immigration people need is proof that you have been living in canada, which his utility bills will provide.
i have heard this being done many times.
is it acceptable?anonymous 02 Ago 2007, 08:50 - Denuncia -
Oh dear!
My husband and I have just sent our application forms away today... looks as tho we are in for a long long wait!
