Taxation requirements

• I am an Australian citizen who will be moving to Canada in 2009. I would like to know what departments I need to register with. I am currently in Ireland and have been stung with emergency tax, even though I registered with immigration and Social Security - I was never informed that I needed to apply for tax credits here as well. Please can someone advise me who I need to register with, and what details I need to succesfully work and live in Canada!!
