Racism against white people in South Africa

  • I am going to South Africa in a couple of months and after what I heard from friends, I'm starting to get really scared. According to what they tell me, there is a movement of racism towards white people going on, and some of my friends are even scared of going into black neighborhoods (besides the usual fear of crime of course). Does anybody have any experience with this?

    This is just the sort of response we are all too familiar with , instead of having a intelligent measured and humourous discussion on the subject of racisum , or high feeling of how are respective countries are going through change , of which we all have to face , whether we are white or black , this outburst clearly states that , whoever you are , you a incapable of reasonable discussion without resorting to threats of violance , it is this violance , personal ,or governmental institionalised a good example of this is 1. What is now going on in Rhodesia (zimbabwe if you like) & 2. What went on a few years ago in Rwanda between two black I might say tribes the Hutu and the Tutsi who had the audacity to blame the Belgian empire which collapsed a good 105 years befor the out break of violence in thier country. I mean how far are you going to go back in time , you South African Blacks accuse apartied , you might even go back as far as the slave trade , but in this instance who were going into the interior of west Africa to capture persons for this trade , not the Whites because our ancestors were not in a position to know where to find them . IT WAS BLACK Africans capturing other Black Africans to sell to Black African Middle men , who kept these peaple in wretched conditions until they were sent to Black African slave markets to be bought by the slave runners who , unfortunatly were White. And some who were Arabs and other races includeing other Black Africans who did'nt want to do the dirty jobs . You cannont blame white peaple for everthing that goes wrong in your lives and the same is true the other way , in other words look at your own first , look at your history b etween yourselves either in recent time or in times gone by,look at the amounts of Zim refugees in your own country , mainly black , and what happens to these peaple when they seek assistance from their brothers in the south , they are robbed and raped , and you have the audacity to call yourselves brothers and sisters against the white menace sort out yourselves with your threats of violence , if you want an intelligent discussion with me I'll accomodate you if you want to threaten me , I will say only this God is great and he is the merciful , man although made in his image has strayed and forgotten the message.     A word of advice, Natalie: don't go to South Africa. When my mother contemplated going to Africa, the lady at the travel shop told her not to veer from the tourist routes because the locals will happily slit a women's throat to get her handbag. If you watch the news often enough you'll see the savagery of these "people" is beyond description.

    What I'm about to say will shock those with more delicate ears but it must be said to awaken people from their egalitarian delusions. Blacks have an average IQ of 70 (borderline retarded)and can be thought of stone age, jungle savages. Their AIDS rate is through the roof due to their inability to control their impulses. They never discovered the wheel and built nothing more complex than the mud hut.

    Zimbabwe had the second biggest reserve of wilderness in Africa . The few report coming out of Zimbobwe is that the locals are slaughtering the animals to feed their families.

    To sum up a black person in a nut shell , they live for today and tommorrow will sort it self out . THey don't believe in planing or maintance ie Eskom is a perfect example the infrastructure hasn't been maintained since 1994 . The irony is Electricty has to always be consistant and always on , when it's off we all look around and take note .

    What else have they forgotten to maintain or rather what has been maintained in our Rainbow country which seems to be falling apart .

But I met a Lord somebody outside Buckingham palace the other day and got talking about cigars , so he took me round to st.James street and bough a cigar for me R150 and told me not to worry about it.     seems like the stats have reached one million . A Million white South African's has left since 1994 . Most of of the figures shows that the
    age's range from 25 - 35 . Strange as this sounds this is our prime breeding stock and most of the people imagrating already have kids , they looking for a safer enviroment to build their future . THere was 5.5 odd Million white South Africans begining of 1994 , now sitting on 4.2 Millions .
    Sounds like allot of people , but as i mentioned before that Million figure represents 60% of the people who would have kids and add more people to the comunity . Officialy the white population in SA is going into negative figures , so when i read the stats it felt odd to be part of a dying breed .     I am an Afrikaans white male. When I read through everything written on this site, it fills me with sadness. There are two sides to the coin. During apartheid many bad things were done to people in this country. People who were not white, were humiliated, hurt and treated with disrespect. Today we reap what was sown by those who came before us. Today, whites are being treated in a similar way. I love this country and the people of this country. I have changed, and accept all people as being complete human beings with equal rights. It is true that there are black people in positions that are not capable of doing their jobs. Sadly I have to admit that two of my three sons, whom I love very much, can be placed in the same catagory. How long does it take for a culture group to learn to govern a country if they never had the opportunity to learn?

    There is so much anger and hatred amongs our people in this country. I am of opinion that whites live in fear of blacks, therefore all the negative comments. We asked for trouble when we opressed people in the past. We now have to live with the results. I am accepted by black, coloured and asian people because I am not a racist and respect all people. I don't experience all the negative effects others are complaining about. I drive through and work in so-called black villages and townships on a daily basis and have always been treated with respect. I guess it must be because I treat people with respect wherever I go.

    I have learnt that there is something some whites hate more than black people. It is a white man who is not a racist. Every day of my life, I have to live as an outcast amongst some fellow whites, simply because I serve God in a multiracial church, have friends amongst all culture groups and don't allow people to make racist remarks without asking them to stop doing it. I stood up for what I believe in and gladly live with the price I have to pay.

    Black people should bear in mind that not all whites are racists. There are some of us that want to take hands and do something positive to improve the situation in our beloved country. All of us should leave the past behind and build a new future for all people in South Africa.

    Preface: I am an American living in Johannesburg and my domestic partner is South African. I have lived here for almost a year and have a somewhat unique perspective being an outsider yet also living amongst South Africans and having a South African extended family.

    Plus: Already see it coming: White South Africans that want to call me naive, liberal, or worse (you know the name, I won't repeat it...) bugger off. I have been robbed in my home, tied up, had a knife put to my throat and then was pissed on..... and I have decided to stay here in your country and live and work and volunteer my time.....so I know the score!!!

    First of all, this is the most race concious place in the world. The fact that even white liberals cannot think outside the racial box and have to base all arguments in the racial lingo proves the essential point of the problem: People look at the color of a person's skin here to define them first before they look at them as an individual. (This goes for blacks and whites.) I can say this with impunity because I too, since arriving here, and especially after being robbed have had to fight daily a battle with myself to stay intellectually honest and not descend into ignorant rascism. It is a natural human instinct to distrust and dislike someone easily identifiable as diffrent. Freud would say it is an attempt to maintain the relationship you have with your own self identity.....

    The majority of each race here is so consumed with racial identity and use it to define themselves...that it is easy to see someone of another race as the "other," and never or only after that look beyond, to see the person as a person. All this crap about imperialists, colonialists, mud hut dwellers, albino disease...... you people are in need of a drastic wake up call. You need to get over your own fears of others or your country is going nowhere. The simple fact is that everybody of every race needs each other in this country to make it a better place. There is so much lost potential and so much passive agressive anger here, it should be bottled to solve the world's energy crisis.

    I am so saddened by some white people here who are ready to pack up and leave rather then roll up their sleeves and make a difference. If those people who had left to go overseas had taken half the time and effort it takes to emmigrate and poured those efforts into the community here...South Africa might actually be more like the place they think they want to live in. This isn't even my country and I volunteer my time with HIV and AIDS orphans in an attempt to try and make a difference....how many of you that have left came close to doing anything like that? If the answer is "I shouldn't have to do anything to feel safe in my own home." Well...I have news for you. You are not entitled to anything in this world.....and we are all memebers of a community charged with the responsibility to contribute to it.

    I was shocked when I was at a community meeting on crime mostly attended by whites who sat back and just listened, refusing to actively participate. Time to get over your white guilt and realize you are part of a community. Don't allow yourselves to be defined and categorized away in a box. There are a lot of white South Africans I see making a positive difference and then there are those who are content to whine and complain and sit on their hands. You are members of the community!!!! Don't make excuses, just do....and don't give me the crap about working against the tide.....what bull.

    Then there are some blacks like the disgusting pigs that made the most offensive comments in this blog about pussies and rape, etc. What is it about your skin color that makes you think you're diffrent? What is that you are willing to do to others that you are not willing to have done to you and your wives and mothers? membership to a racial group should not be grounds for entitlement...and this goes both ways. If you want to be treated equally then you must live by the golden rule.

    We are all JUST PEOPLE...mothers, fathers, sisters , brothers, lovers...... we need to RESPECT one another. The truth is that a black person who is a victim of crime and a white person who is a victim of crime have more in common then a black criminal or a white criminal does to either one of them.

    If one wants to visit SA, I say...come and visit... it is a great country....but use the requisite amount of caution and care required for a country that has a crime problem like SA. You are not in danger every moment, but you need to be cautious and use care. Crime is the most untenable thing here in terms of quality of life. The vitriol on this website is not indicative of all South Africans and you will not feel subject to rascism by and large, though you will probably feel it in the air as it hangs thick from all quarters.

    As an American, I miss the saftey of living at home, but surprisingly you get used to the way things are here very quickly. As with everything it is a state of mind. If you want to live your life in fear, your life will be miserable. If you want to live your life as an empowered individual, you will lead an empowered life. After I was robbed I could have packed up and said "screw this third world hell hole...." but that would have been the easy way out. (And I am not denying that if I had kids I might not have thought twice about it...)

    You can't negate the history here in SA...and that is why I am tolerant of prejudices in people here that I would not tolerate back home. There is nothing like the experience of a sweet white granny here serving you cookies (biscuits, sorry...) and saying, "bloody kaffirs." Jaw dropping experience, but it is all she has known. I have seen a lot of blacks who shrug it off too. Most South Africans will keep their racial prejudices to themselves if they see you are a foreigner....but amongst themselves I see it is still perfectly acceptable to air their views amongst each other. Plus, having become friends with several blacks here I am surprised to see the racially prejudicial attitude towards other blacks of a diffrent tribe. When will it all stop?

    To every whinger and complainer...I tell you: Do what you can to make an effort to bridge the gap everyday by doing something substanative....or at the very least....try to correct yourself when ignorant ideas come into your own head.

    Remember...person first.....color second. Try it, you might like it.

  • Racism in America

    Concerned citizen: As an American living in Joberg for the past year, I can tell you that it is definately NOT worse in the United States then here with regard to racism. Whoever said that is on crack. South African live, breathe and eat race...... in a way it is not even contemplated in the States. There is absolutely no comparison in my mind.

    That said, America is a big country and there are areas that are more prone to racism then others. Racism does exist in America...... but we have had a generation of distance and significant progress from the 50's and 60's civil rights era and racial segregation in the South. Give us another decade and it will be completely irrelevant.

    I guess you have to remeber that South Africa is only 15 years free from a racial segregation even more comprehensive then that which existed in the American South. It took America 40 years to get where it is today, it is going to take that long for South Africans at least, with unique roadblocks which do not and did not exist in the States.

    Obama would never have gotten elected without a huge component of predominantly white voters. Blacks do not exist in sufficient numbers in the States to pull off an Obama victory by themselves. His candidacy was very effective in transending race and racial politics. If he made it about race he would never have been elected. Sure, there is the residue of white voters who would not vote for him if because he was black...but they have been shown to be a small minority.

U just gonna visit.. not live here so it's fine! i know, i know this country well, i loved it, i was born here, but it changed for alot of people but i woke up in July 2008 With a gun digging into my cheek at my own home! I was one of those who wanted to make it work! But my country let me down, people let each other down. South Africa is beautifull, but at the sametime ugly. I will recomend that u come with a group, dont bring nice jewelry or alot of stuff, dont travel at night, and check that the doors are ALWAYS locked. Dont trust anyone or ask anything on the streets, get pepperspray, let your friends and family know where u gonna be at at all times. 10111 is the police number. Check out the tours, they are safe, just dont do things alone. Cheers

    I am a WHITE South African. Shoot me i shine during nightime! LOL. This was one of the if not the best countries in the world. Intill after Apartheid. I for one HATE what Apartheid did to this country in a sence that we did not give people equal rights yes! but all the people had food and income. But now I HATE even more what ANC (APARTHEID) is doing. There is no freedom in South Africa..now less than then! This is what the white South Africans has been fighing against all these years. And now that Black people are free from Apartheid so should they join in the fight against evil people of which we have too many of. But instead they kill white people on farms and during night time while they are sleeping. All this after the goverment imposed the new law of how and when you are allowed to protect yourself. This law says dont kill someone unless you are being shot at. Dont stab unless your being stabbed. And they made it so damn difficult to have a firearm that most people just give up on getting one. Leaving us weak in defending our woman and children. So that they, The blacks can rape you child infront of your eyes and slowly kill them before killing you too. If you think this is untrue then wake up. You dont know shit about the things happening here. We protected our peace and stability and The African National COMMUNIST party (ANC) as they where known for turned against that to be able to do exactly what they are doing now - (Read from other commends this describes them the best, The ANC government should announce that it is changing its emblem from an Eagle to a Condom because it more accurately reflects the governments political stance. a Comdom allows for inflation, halts production, destroys the generation, protects a bunch of pricks, and gives you a sence of security while you're actually being screwed!). This war has been going on since white people arrived in SA. We all know the history, and to what extend the Zulus turned against us everytime we tried to make peace. Whent back on their word and stabbed us in the back on many ocations. That is where our hatred came from and for almost 400 years matured into what we called Apartheid.     I am a white American. SA seems to be slowly heading towards genocide of white people. White people are not going to be allowed to buy guns or ammunition so they will be defenseless. They will also find it difficult to find employment or go to school and get a degree, so leaving will become impossible in the near future. If I were a white South African I would leave NOW. The older whites that do actually have jobs need to help the younger whites that are not allowed to get jobs leave the country. If you can not find a country that will give you citizenship, just save up for a plane flight out and live on the down low somewhere. If you come to America, you might be able to work on a farm. Just explain to the farmer the situation in SA and why you can't go back, and you can probably get enough to scrape by. As for housing, you probably won't be able to lease an apartment, but you can probably find someone that has already leased one and wants a roommate to save money. It will be scary and difficult at first, but you will figure it out. And it certainly beats watching your mom get raped before they burn each of you with irons and finally kill you a week later.

    From the looks of things, the shit hasn't even hit the fan yet in SA. Get out before it does.

    Reading all these posts is breaking my heart. It brings a tear to my eyes to see such misplaced hatred. I can only repeat what Chris said on the 28th Oct. I highly doubt me writing this will make any effect but here it is.

    First, I'm a woman from Australia. Im coming to South Africa soon to try to help you guys out. Im no saint, I just feel that I must have been born in a lucky country so I can help someone else who isnt so lucky.

    Here in Aus we have problems too, we were horible to the Aboriginals but were trying to make it up. Though I dont know anyone who hates Aboriginal people, we all pretty much see the rut theyre stuck in was cause by a few generations of whites before us and we accept it and both the white Aussies and the Aboriginal Aussies are trying to work together to make things better.

    Note the keyword there was TOGETHER!

    To the blacks in South Africa...
    Why do you hate the whites soo much? Yes they acted discustingly toward you, there is no possible excuse for that and there never ever will be. And it was so long ago. But can't you see they are trying to make it up to you? Can't you see they have made sacrifices to help you?

    Forget about this "it was my land" crap. Forget about all this crap about "migrating back to europe" as well. WAKE UP! were in the 21st century where black, red, white, yellow and every other colour live in every country, no matter what colour skin it originally was.

    Just say your grandfather comitted a crime and the penalty wasnt paid. You regret what your grandfather did and you try to make ammends.     first of all if it wasnt for white ppl, there wouldnt be no south africa, there would have been AFRICA a continent and a nation as one, but since withe ppl didnt like the fact that black escaped slavery you had to go to our land and try to show off. Im black portuguese and in portugal there is crime but racism is far because in guine bissau there are a lot of white ppl married to black women, in "south africa" a withe person wouldnt even ther to touch us unless its a ligth skin person. Why is that in the rugby union was a big polemic over the fact that there was only one ligth skin guy playing?? now there are more blacks playing for the team. dont get me wrong i love the fact that white ppl in S.A can speak creoule and it makes me sad that theres some black ppl that are still leaving in the past and not present, but we were slaves in our own land, and we will not let that happen again.     What the hell are you talking about? "No racism in South Africa?" You blacks have totally screwed up South Africa. Whites cannot get into university, cannot get a government pension, cannot join the police, and cannot live in their own houses or on their own farms without being murdered in their beds by - wait for it -blacks. Add to this, rolling black outs, BEE (black economic empowerment) which gives blacks jobs that they aren't qualified to hold. The result? South Africa is now the third most violent country in the world behind Colombia and Iraq. The ANC is practising black apartheid, and whites are fleeing in their droves. Just look at Zimbabawe and the rest of Africa. You blacks have totally screwed yourselves up royally. Don't blame the whites - we built your countries, now you are in charge, you are ruining everything for yourselves and others who live in your countries.

    My advice? Stay well away from this dangerous back sliding country, unless you actually want to go to a place where more people are raped and murdered than anywhere else in the world.
