Visa for family without marriage cert

• Hi. Can anyone help me with this? We have lived in Malaysia twice and now Indonesia. All 3 times we have managed to obtain our visas without a marriage certificate.
  
  We have been living together for over 17 years, and have two children aged 14 and 10.
  
  Is it mandatory that we have a marriage cert to get the appropriate visa to stay in Bahrain if my husband accepts a job there or do they make some exceptions to the rule?
  
  If he accepts the job the new position will start in about March 2009.
